Gary Kirsten Selected As South Africa Coach

Gary Kirsten, who led India to their 50 over World Cup triumph this year, has been appointed coach of his native South Africa.

The opening batsman's first officially will take over in August before the two home series against Australia and Sri Lanka Cricket South Africa said on Monday.

Kirsten successful three-year stint as India coach ended in April when he turned down a lucrative contract extension.

The 43-year-old will take over from Corrie van Zyl at South Africa.

Kirsten played 101 Tests and 185 one-day internationals their country.
