Tep"KO'd," Stock Halted Again ( TYO:9501) (PINK:TKECF)

NEW YORK - Tokyo Electric popularly known as Tepco, has again had its stock halted at the opening of Japanese trading. This comes as news reports state the government is considering temporary nationalization of the utility giant. The government may hold the utility maker liable for the disaster meaning shares would be delisted.

The unkown potential liability from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant accident, which occured after an earthquake on March 11 has put pressures on the company's going concern.

Radiation levels have been found to be 100,000 times above normal levels in some areas, as Tepco's future remains between Fukushima and the Government of Japan.

No one Bidding for Tepco ( TYO:9501) (PINK:TKECF)

NEW YORK - Tokyo Electric popularly known as Tepco, took an extra 40 minutes for its shares to open in morning trade; shareholders of the company wish it had not opened at all. The stock was delayed because of the backlog of sellers. Shares are now 13% lower and Tokyo Electric has lost another ¥161 billion of market capitalization, bringing the total of ¥2.23 trillion yen of value lost since the onset of the earthquake and tsunami on March 11 .

Radiation levels in the seawater have soared near Tepco's crippled nuclear reactor at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant. The plant has been crippled since the earthquake and tsunami knocked out the cooling systems, which caused its reactors to overheat, emitting radiation into the atmosphere. Engineers are continuing to struggle to stabilize the power station.

Tests have shown that off the coast that radiation levels were 1,250 times higher than normal but it is not yet considered a threat to marine life by the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency.

Prime Minister Naoto Kan said that the situation is not close to being solved, but Yukio Edano Chief Cabinet Secretary said the situation was no longer deteriorating.

Tepco to Compensate Farmers, Stock Halted (PINK:TKECF) (TYO:9501)



NEW YORK - Reports from Japanese officials state that they want Tokyo Electric known as Tepco to pay farmers for their losses from radiation. Yukio Edano, chief cabinet secretary, said the state would “have Tepco take responsibility”. Edano added that if Tepco is unable to compensate the individuals then the government would step in.

The cost of cleaning the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant can be massive, and the liability cannot be estimated besides saying billions. The sale of food from the area has been restricted. A sample of the drinking water near the Fukushima plant shows drinking water being 3 times the legal limit but officials say drinking it will not cause serious health effects.

Tepco has said that reactors 5 and 6 have been cooled to safe levels; engineers were testing systems inside the 1, 2 and 4 reactors afters bringing power back to the site.

It is still unknown what sort of damage the plant has sustained.

Tepco stock has currently been halted from trading (TYO:9501) , before being halted it was up 16% to 1098 Yen.
