A livery driver lost control of his Lincoln Town Car and crashed through a storefront window, killing one woman and injuring five others.
Details were still sketchy but authorities say a 61-year-old woman, who was possibly walking by when the taxi jumped the curb at Bainbridge Avenue and E. Fordham Road, at just before 3 p.m., on April 21, was mowed down and pinned under the vehicle.
As dozens of people walked by the busy intersection, the taxi plowed through the plate glass window of Cee and Cee Department store, located at 331 E. Fordham Road.
The woman, whose name has not yet been released, pending notification of her next of kin, died less than an hour later at St. Barnabus Hospital.
The unidentified driver, who reportedly swerved to avoid hitting another pedestrian, was taken by police for questioning.
The crash comes just 10 days after two teens were killed in a horrific crash, and less than a mile away at E. Fordham Road and Southern Boulevard.
In that case, police say Klaudio Simoni, 19, and Rudi Drekaj, 15, were killed on April 11, after their vehicle attempted to pass a truck before the Southern Boulevard underpass, but the car the teens were riding in clipped the truck and the car hit the wall.
