Kawartha Speedway: Success Comes in Streaks

FRASERVILLE, ON - After being held to just an opening night win during the 2009 season and then watching others pose for photos in Kawartha Speedway’s Better Carpet Thunder Car victory lane to start the 2010 season, Willie Reyns was starting to wonder if he’d ever win a feature race again.  That question was answered Friday, July 16th when the Port Hope, Ontario racer grabbed his first checkered flag of the year.  Since then, he’s been the only Kawartha regular to win a thunder car main event.

“In 2008 – our championship season – we made 5 trips to the winner’s circle, so it was almost something we got used to”, said Reyns.  “The rest of the time, we had a solid stretch of top 5 efforts and our worst run that year was 4th.  Still, there’s nothing like winning a race.  My family usually stands along the railing across from victory lane, so I can always be assured of having a cheering section when I get out of the car”.

After a quick break, Kawartha Speedway comes back strong Friday, August 27th for the first of 3 shows in a row.  A 50 lap Better Carpet Thunder Car feature will highlight the opening night of the trio.  The Hasiuk Trailer and Container Rental Mini Stocks and NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Models will also be on the show – along with the first of back-to-back appearances by the Ontario Legends Series.  A week later – Friday, September 3rd – the mini stocks will run a 50 lap invitational, along with regular distance events for the thunder cars and late models.  The 7th annual 150 lap Summer Sizzler late model event – delayed by rain July 9th – will be made-up Friday, September 10th.  The $3,000.00 to win invitational show will include a full night of racing and the Ontario Legends Series.  For this night only, gates will open at 2:00 with racing at 6:00.

2010 has been an exciting 10th Anniversary season at Kawartha Speedway.  Every week, fans can count on excellent side-by-side racing in each of the track’s 3 weekly divisions.  The history making campaign will conclude Saturday, September 25th with the annual NASCAR Canadian Tire Series finale.  Full details can be found at www.kawarthaspeedway.com.
