EDMONTON, AB - Stefan Rzadzinski took to the track at Mosport International Raceway for rounds 9 and 10 of the Ontario Formula Ford Championship in his #2 Brian Graham Racing - Team Grote Van Dieman RF00.
Heading on track for Saturday qualifying with the support of Shelemey Financial for the event, Rzadzinski immediately was back on form and set the fastest lap of the session for his third pole of the season. Following a good start, Rzadzinski was passed on the back straightaway on the opening lap and was battling for the lead for the majority of the race. At one point Rzadzinski lost momentum and fell to 5th place overall, but battled back into the 2nd spot to try and fight for the win. Unfortunately, the strong run was short lived as an electrical failure ended Rzadzinski's race early.
On Sunday, the Ontario Formula Ford Championship was hit with a wet track for the entire day. With support from Lube-X and season long supporter The ABL Group, Rzadzinski looked to rid himself of the bad luck which plagued him on Saturday. Qualifying just off pole after making a mistake on his last hot lap, Rzadzinski fell to 3rd position at the start of the very treacherous and slick race in full wet conditions.
He held the spot until the leaders in front both made mistakes which Rzadzinski took full advantage of. Jumping into the overall lead, he had a short battle with a B-Class car before deciding to settle for 2nd place overall and the lead of the A-Class. The final laps were wild as Rzadzinski was overtaken and fell to 3rd, but a mistake from the driver ahead in an attempt to pass for the overall win handed back Rzadzinski the win in the A-Class and a third victory in his last three weekends of competition.
"Saturday was very disappointing because I felt I had the best car on track and really had a shot for the win, but the failure of a 50 cent part ended my race short. It was a tough break, but I have to thank Shelemey Financial for the support on the weekend, it was really great to have them on board! On Sunday, the conditions were treacherous and I really wanted to put the car on pole for both races on the weekend. I was caught up in traffic for a lot of the session, but managed to put in a lap good enough to be just off pole.
On my last flying lap I made a mistake which cost me a pole position time, but it was a good learning experience for sure! In the race I was driving at around 80%, just conservatively enough knowing that the race would come to the driver who made the fewest mistakes. The style for the race ended up paying off as I took the lead after the drivers ahead of me ended up making costly mistakes. Eventually, in a fight for the overall win, I let the B-Class driver who was battling with me ahead to make sure we didn't have an incident.
After a disappointing Saturday, I needed to bring home points on Sunday. Although it wasn't my favourite move to drive conservatively, it paid off well and I brought home full points for the championship! I have to thank Lube-X and The ABL Group for the support for this event.
Along with Shelemey Financial, Lube-X and The ABL Group, I have to thank CSP Engineering, Teckelklub, Myrtle Beach Fire & Safety Co., and SuperTint. Now I just have to find a few supporters to get out to the last 2 weekends so I can finish my championship fight!"
