LOSC: Connelly wins at Peterborough season opener

ARNPRIOR, ON - After the first two attempts at starting the 2010 Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup being thwarted by mother-nature, she finally smiled on Peterborough Speedway this past weekend giving White Lake resident Dave Connelly his first win of the year!

Dave Connelly has been very active in raising money with his “Fuel for Kids” program for elementary schools all of Ontario at Metro stores with the total over $100,000 in the last 5 years.

However, this past weekend Dave took his 500 hp Schneider’s Hot Rod to Peterborough Speedway for the opening round of the 2010 Lucas Oil Sportsman Series.

“We were very good in practice and ended up 4th in qualifying 3/100ths off the pole….pretty sure there was 3/100ths left in the car” chuckled Dave.  “We started on the outside – which at Peterborough is like signing a death warrant – we ran hard up top but just couldn’t get the car down on the bottom finally found a hole in 8th spot and battled to 5th by the end of the 1st 50 lapper.”

“We were too loose for the 1st race – Mike Knott decided to play with the track bar and tighten her up some” said Dave.  “We started the 2nd race on the pole with the inversion and the car was a rocket off the corner, she was alittle tight in the centre but fantastic off.  I had to ease into the corner to make it stay on the bottom, Shawn, Josh, and Jay were struggling on the high side so I just figured keep it on the bottom and make sure I get a great run off the corner everytime.  After 4-5 cautions and fighting with those guys up beside we finally got to the checker – until around Lap 40 I was waiting to get dumped – full credit to those guys for running a clean race.”

The Series heads to Sunset Speedway next weekend where Dave and the Schneiders Team hope to bring home another trophy.  For more information visit www.racesportz.com or check out the teams fan page on Facebook.
