Hebden Bridge ‘World On Your Doorstep’ Fundraising Event

Sunday 29th and Monday 30th August 2010, the bank holiday weekend, will see the famous Hebden Bridge Trades Club open its doors to host the World on Your Doorstep (WOYD) August Bank Holiday Fundraising Bonanza. The two day event will be the start of 12 months of fundraising which will culminate in the WOYD festival.
WOYD is a 2 day festival being planned for 16th and 17th July 2011 in Hebden Bridge. It embraces the diversity of cultures in West Yorkshire by celebrating the tradition of welcoming varying groups into the region.
Acts performing at the fundraising event at the Trades Club will include Australian Matt Gresham, who is on his first UK tour, Alice Jane, Toka Swell and local bands Fat Rascals and Electric Gypsys. In addition, Arabian Fusion band Rubayat from Manchester, Todmorden’s own Az Kabile Arabic dancers, as well as internationally renowned reggae DJ collective Chapter Four. Also performing will be Alex Quinn and The Man in The Street, Loconics, and The EBGB’s, an indie funk band fusion.
There will be world food available on the Bank Holiday Monday and a children’s disco between 1pm and 3pm. Children will have the opportunity to have their faces painted whilst enjoying a fun-filled afternoon.
Until 2009 ‘WOYD’ had been a popular festival, with thousands of people attending, when due to unfortunate personal circumstances the previous event organiser had to pull-out.
The festival in 2011 will continue the world theme by celebrating music, song and dance and will feature international live music and DJs from a number of different cultures. There will also be a multitude of attractions for visitors to experience including workshops, art displays, a dance space and a world market full of independent shops selling fair trade goods.
The event organiser Helen Crawford said:
“The festival has always been a popular event, not only with the local community, but with people from across West Yorkshire and beyond.” She added: “As a community organised project, the fund raising event at The Trades Club will kick-start our efforts to collect the £30,000 required to hold the festival in 2011.”

Ticket costs for the event are £5.00 per day.
