SASKATOON, SK, Thursday Aug. 5, 2010: Scott Steckly driver of the No. 22 Racing/Canadian Tire Dodge had another solid run in the final event of the three race Western Canada swing finishing the Velocity Prairie Thunder at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway in fourth on Wednesday night.
After practicing 8th quickest earlier in the day the team led by crew chief Greg Gibson went back to the drawing board and made some changes to the car prior to qualifying.
The Canadian Tire Dodge driver would post a time quick enough for the third starting position and the team were confident they had a good car for the 250 lap race later in the evening.
At the drop of the green flag Steckly fell back to fourth but it was a planned strategy to just run with the leaders and save the equipment. This event last year had Steckly starting from the tail of the field after losing a motor in practice and coming back to take the win so they were confident in their abilities to get to the front. After a long green flag session, Steckly brought his car to the attention of his crew for tires and fuel on lap 207 setting them up to make a run for the front over the final 40 laps.

With 18 laps to go the caution flew for only the third time in the race with the No. 22 car running in second. Steckly lined up on the outside of leader DJ Kennington for the restart but the Canadian Tire Dodge was really set up to run down low on the track and at the checkered flag he had dropped back to fourth. “We had a really good car again tonight and I was really fast down low on the track,” stated Steckly after the race. “Our strategy worked for us tonight right up until the last caution. I want to thank all my crew guys for their hard work and efforts over the last couple of weeks as well as Canadian Tire and all of our supporters.”
On this three race Western swing Steckly and his team have posted three top five finishes with a third at Edmonton, a win at Vernon, BC and a fourth at Saskatoon and moved up one position in the point standings.
Finish: 1. DJ Kennington 2. JR Fitzpatrick 3. Don Thomson Jr. 4. Scott Steckly.
Scott Steckly remains in third in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series point standings after seven events.
The Velocity Prairie Thunder 250 will be broadcast on TSN on Saturday Aug. 21, 1 p.m. ET.
Next up for the 22 Racing Team will be the Grand Prix de Trois Rivieres in Quebec on Aug. 15th.
