Written, Directed, Photographed and Edited by George Lucas.
Starring Randall Kleiser and Christopher Lewis.
George Lucas' third film as a student at the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts, Freiheit ('freedom' in German) is a three minute experimental short about a young man fleeing from the sounds of artillery as he tries to cross the border between East and West Germany. Shot before he can reach his destination, the young man lies dying as he contemplates the value of freedom and the sacrifice he has made in his quest to secure it.
Starring in the main role is fellow student and Lucas' roommate Randall Kleiser, who would go on to become a successful filmmaker in his own right with credits such as Grease (1978), The Blue Lagoon (1980) and Flight of the Navigator (1986). Also briefly appearing as the enemy soldier is Christopher Lewis, son of Academy Award-winning actress Loretta Young (The Farmer's Daughter) and her second husband Tom Lewis.
