On Thursday, two-time NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Champion Andrew Ranger finished 22nd in the NASCAR K&N PRO Series East event held at Richmond International Raceway in Richmond, North Carolina.
Ranger, the driver of the No. 35 Waste Management Recycling NDS Motorsports, lined up in 3rd place for the Inaugural Blue Ox 100 race. The 100 laps event, which showcased a 38-car field, was slowed for two cautions and one lengthy (1h48m) red flag for rain.
The Roxton Pond, Quebec native battled with eventual winner Darell Wallace Jr., Brett Moffit who finished second and fourth place finisher Max Gresham for the first 75 laps. He even raced his way to second place just before the halfway mark, when he fell back to fourth. A position he would hold until the Lap 76 restart.
"On the last restart, knowing how strong we were all day, my goals were nothing short of a top five. I lined up outside of Brett Moffit in 4th place. When the green flag waved the handling of the car was just not the same. We had a right rear tire going down. I must have run over debris from the crash which drew the caution flag. All day, the car was perfect. The flat made it scary loose, at that point there was nothing we could do but hang on and salvage something for the team" commented Ranger.
After the event, when driver Andrew Ranger pulled in to the No. 35 Waste Management Recycling NDS Motorsports pit stall the tire was completely flat. "Obviously it's disappointing. We were so close, yet the result sheet will show we finished 22nd, which is not indicative of how well we did. We should have finished in the top 5. There is no time to dwell on it, as we now move and focus on the K&N Pro Series West event at Miller Motorsport Park (Tooele, Utah) where we qualify and race on Saturday" added Ranger.
Following this weekend's double-header, Andrew Ranger will return behind the wheel of the No. 35 Waste Management Recycling NDS Motorsports race car on May 22, when the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards visits New Jersey Motorsports Park for the Garden State 150.
