Cantley, PQ – The annual demolition derby night at Edelweiss Speedway with a new challenge this year as only 4 and 6 cylinders cars were permitted in the derby. A full program of racing was also on the card along with the 3rd race of the EDG Equipment Series for the Modifieds, some 4-wheeler racing is also on the schedule on Boucherie du Village Night.
In the 30-lap Modified Feature race, Denis Gauvreau took the early lead over his younger brother Eric and Stéphane Lafrance in third. The Gauvreau brothers got away from the rest of the field with 5 laps in the books. Lafrance got close to Eric Gauvreau with a dozen laps in. Eric Gauvreau slowed down and went to the pits as Lafrance gained ground on the leader and passed him at the halfway point with Luke Whitteker in third spot. Whitteker was now on the back bumper of Gauvreau with only 7 laps to go. Lafrance led the final laps to win his fifth feature of the season over Denis Gauvreau, Luke Whitteker, Ryan Foley and Ryan Poole completed the top 5. The race was done without any caution and was completed in 7 minutes and 24 seconds.
Guy Régimbald leads the first lap as Steve Gagné passes him on the backstretch and takes the lead but not for long as Benoit Dubois is faster and his now the leader. Mark Trudeau now runs in second spot and got closer to the leader with 6 laps in the books. Trudeau that was running side by side with Dubois, lost control of his car and lost several spots as Nico Leblanc was running strong and passed Gagné for the second spot. Dubois led the final laps to win his second feature of the season in front of Nico Leblanc and Steve Gagné completes the top 3.
Dave Bell led the initial lap in the 15-lap Mod-Lite feature when Richard Renaud made multiple rollovers and went of the hill in turn 1 and red flag came out. A few cars went to the pits including outsider Rejean Lemieux who had issues with his car. The green flag came back and Dean Pronovost had a strong start and took the lead over Bell and Sylvain Laframboise in third spot. Pronovost was alone in front while Bell and Laframboise were in battle for second spot. Pronovost led the final laps to win his fourth feature of the season over Bell and Laframboirse.
In the shorten 8-lap Mini-Stock Feature, Jean-Marc Larose led all the laps to capture his 6th win of the season over Gabriel Mercier and Nicolas Malette.
One of the biggest show of the year next week with the Empire Super Sprints in town for their second and final visit of the season, more than 20 sprint cars are expected to show up with this show being a prelude to the Quebec Sprint Nationals the next night at Autodrome Drummond. Along with the spectacular sprints, the Mini-Stock will have a special 25-lap event with 400$ to the winner and more than $2,000 in purse, a great field of cars is expected for this race. The regular Mod-Lite feature was boosted to 25 laps with drivers from Eastern Quebec and Southern Ontario making the haul down. The Semi-Pro will also be on the racing card next week with the Modifieds having a night off.
