Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex opened more than 61 points higher on Tuesday on the back of selective buying by funds and retail investors.
30-share index, which had lost 44.73 points the previous session, rose 61.48 points, or 0.30 percent to 20,090.41 points in the first minutes of trade.
Similarly, broad-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty moved rose 12.80 points, or 0.21 percent to 6,010.90 points.
Brokers said buying activity was present only in metal, consumer durables, and power supplies.
They said trading volumes were low due to the low participation of foreign capital because of the holiday season.
