Australian Cadel Evans won the sixth stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico cycling race on Monday to extend his overall lead.
In 2009, world champion beat the Italians Giovanni Visconti and Michele Scarponi, at the end of a trek of 178 km Ussita to give his BMC team their first win of the season.
Evans kept his composure when the runners Scarponi Lampre and Damiano Cunego attacked on the climb towards Macerata and the Italian duo could do nothing when Australia produced a late sprint to record a comfortable victory.
Evans now leads boots nine seconds, and Ivan Basso have 12 seconds first round last Tuesday.
