Softball: Briar Woods and Woodgrove Advance to State Semifinals for First Time

(June 8, 2011) - Loudoun will send two softball teams to the Virginia High School League AA state semifinals Friday at Radford after Briar Woods, behind junior Macy Jones' pitching gem, and Woodgrove, behind a sixth inning rally, both advanced.

It is the first trip to the Final Four for both Briar Woods (23-4) and first-year Woodgrove (24-4).

Softball: Briar Woods Junior Macy Jones Named Region II Pitcher of the Year


(June 7, 2011) - Briar Woods High School junior Macy Jones has been named the Region II Pitcher of the Year in a vote of the region's coaches.

Woodgrove coach Joe Spicer, since he was not named the Dulles District Coach of the Year, was not eligible to be Region II Coach of the Year, even though he lead the first-year Wolverines, with no seniors on the roster, to the regional title.

Lacrosse: Loudoun Teams Fight Hard but Fall in State Quarterfinals

(June 7, 2011) - Three Loudoun lacrosse team battled over the weekend in the VHSL state quarterfinals but the Briar Woods High School boys and Loudoun Valley and Woodgrove girls all saw their seasons come to a close.

The Falcons led, 6-1, at the half but couldn't not stop Albemarle for the big comeback.

Softball: Briar Woods Clinches Second Straight Trip to States on Macy Jones No-Hitter

Orange (June 3, 2011) - Junior Macy Jones fired her second no-hitter of the season with 16 strikeouts and drove in a pair of runs to lead Briar Woods to a 3-0 win at Orange County in the semifinals of the Virginia High School League Group AA Region II Tournament Thursday night.

Girls Basketball: Broad Run Hires JV Boys Coach Chris Pasternak as New Coach

(June 2, 2011) - Broad Run High School has hired boys junior varsity coach Chris Pasternak as the school's new girls basketball varsity coach.

In other hiring news, Loudoun Valley wrestling coach Troy Mezzatesta, will coach the Vikings golf team in the fall, taking over for long-time coach Gary McKay.

Baseball and Softball: Five Loudoun Teams Advance in Regional Play

(May 31, 2011) - From AA to AAA Loudoun baseball and softball teams had a great Memorial Day as five teams advanced in regional tournament play. Stone Bridge baseball in the Northern Region and Loudoun Valley softball in the Northwest Region both advanced to the semifinals.

(May 30, 2011) - Junior Macy Jones fired a two-hitter and freshman Kacie Kondrotis snapped a scoreless deadlock with a two-out, two-run single in the fourth inning as Briar Woods High School defeated Woodgrove 4-1 to win its third straight Dulles District Tournament softball title Thursday night at Tuscarora High School in Leesburg.
