Get Stan Musial in the list of winners of the Presidential Medal of Freedom was a long effort of the season for the Cardinals.
The team has started a "Stand for Stan" campaign in May to inspire President Barack Obama in honor of Hall of Fame Cardinals, who will be 90 next week.
The team used social networks like Twitter and Facebook, and launched a website for the fans involved. The team also distributed cardboard cut Musial for the fans, cartoon depicting a batter in a big smile and waving a bat autographed the car.
Musial received a congratulatory phone call Wednesday from baseball commissioner Bud Selig. U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill said Musial was "the greatest Cardinal ever."
