DC Comics and Warner Bros will be hoping to launch another superhero franchise when Green Lantern joins his Justice League buddies Batman and Superman in getting the big screen treatment next summer courtesy of director Martin Campbell (Casino Royale) and star Ryan Reynolds (Buried). The $150m flick will serve as an origin story (a sequel is already in development), with Hal becoming the first human to be granted the honour of serving in the Green Lantern Corps., a mystical brotherhood of warriors and protectors of peace and justice in the universe. Also joining the cast are Mark Strong (Kick-Ass), Blake Lively (The Town), Peter Sarsgaard (An Education), Angela Bassett (Notorious), Tim Robbins (The Shawshank Redemption) and Temuera Morrison (Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones).
