Group Alleges Discrimination Against Blind

The National Federation of the Blind has filed a civil rights complaint with the U.S. Department of Education claiming that Penn State University discriminates against blind students and faculty. The advocacy group alleges that various university computer and technology based services and websites are inaccessible to the blind. The organization says there are text-to-speech programs and other tools to make the services accessible but Penn State has not used them.
Penn State spokeswoman Annemarie Mountz says the university takes equity and accessibility very seriously and is looking into the complaint.
